Santa Clarita - Accountable Local Government
Santa Clarita offers a local government that is accountable.
· City voters get to vote for all 5 members of the City Council. City residents have a 100% say in their government.
(Unincorporated County voters get to vote for only 1 of the 5 Board of Supervisors. County residents get only a 20% say in their government)
· City residents get to vote for the County
Supervisor.
(County residents do not get to vote for City Council members)
· As a City resident, if you don't like the job one of the council members is doing, you can vote him/her out office.
(As an unincorporated County resident, if you don't like the job that the other 4 Board members are doing, you can't do anything about it!)
· Because all of the City Council is elected by all of the City voters, they must do what is in the best interest of the entire City.
(Because unincorporated County residents in the Santa Clarita Valley get to vote for only 1 of 5 board members, the other 4 Board members do not need to care about the Santa Clarita Valley or consider the community's issues)
· All 5 members of the City Council and Planning Commission must live in the City so they know and understand the local issues facing our community.
(None of the 5 supervisors lives in the Santa Clarita Valley, in fact, none live in northern LA County. Supervisor Antonovich lives in Glendale.)
