Santa Clarita - Accessible Local Government

Annexation to the City of Santa Clarita means your local government is the City, not the County. City residents are represented by the City Council.

Accessibility means that:

What does accessibility mean to you?

It means that your elected officials and local government are easy to contact, easy to talk to, and are available to help you!  In the City, you can simply call ot visit City Hall and directly talk to the City Manager or City Council members.  Want to call and talk to the County CAO or to your County Supervisor?  Good luck!

Here is another real word example of accessibility:  A County resident wanted to voice some concerns with a proposed development project that the County Regional Planning Commission was considering.  In order to speak to the Commission, he would have had to take most of the day off of work, leave the house by about 7:00 in the morning, fight through hours of traffic in order to get to downtown LA by 9:30 a.m. when the Planning Commission starts, pay for parking, then hope that the Planning Commission won't delay or postpone the project (in which case he would have to do it all over again).  The burden of addressing his local government was so much that he gave up and was not able to be heard.

By contrast, if the City were his local government, he would have been able to voice his concerns to the City's Planning Commission or City Council after work, with a 10 minute drive, and free parking.

What the County says

Field Offices:

Supervisor Antonovich's office wants you to believe that the Supervisor is accessible through a Field Deputy working out of a local Field Office.  Did you vote for a Field Deputy to represent you?  Do you want your concerns conveyed to your elected official second hand?  Are you confident that the Field Deputy will accurately represent your point or concern?

Town Councils:

The Supervisor also wants you to believe that your concerns can be voiced to a local Town Council.  However, these Town Councils are not recognized by the County as a legally elected body, have no authority whatsoever, and their actions are not binding.  They have no oversight and do not have to comply with state and local laws.    Click here to find out more.

Supervisor Antonovich has 2 million residents to worry about in his district alone.  How can he possibly take your concerns seriously when he is also trying to please 2 million others?
